"Every mum, is not just a mum. Let's take some time to focus on us as women and all the indulgent things we love...not just our little ones!"
This post was inspired by a question I had from Katie in North England. To round up, she was having difficulty “claiming” her own space in her house with three little ones running around. As soon as I read it, I thought about my dressing table, because this is where I go to, knowing it is just a little snippet of space for me and only me! I think if you could grab a small corner, it may be a great idea for you to get something that you are needing.
I have wanted my own dressing table for some time now, but in our last home I didn’t have enough room to have one, so now we have a bigger bedroom, it was something that I wasn’t missing out on!
I have to be honest though, I mainly do my makeup in the bathroom so don’t use my table that much, but, when I do, it is such a treat because it is my little part of the room that enables me to chose my jewellery, do my make up and hair in peace, all while looking at my favourite pretty little bits and bobs…it somehow adds a smile to my face before heading out for the day.
Here is a round up of 4 of the best parts (I think!)
1: My mouse lamp - absolutely love it! It gives character to the space rather than having a boring desk type lamp. On a personal note my husband calls me mouse, so it adds meaning for me too :)
2: A photograph - of just me and my husband! After all, everything started with just us and being that this is my space, I can definitely get away with making it more personal to me (plus we have lots of photos of the kids around the house so I can be excused for being bit more selfish here.
3: My diffuser - now I’m used to having one, I wouldn’t do without it and I change the essential oils used, depending on my mood or what I need at the time.
4: Little bits and bobs - so my heart to remember to love life, a little delicate dragon fly and bee brooch because why not? They’re just super cute!
I could actually carry on and mention everything in this picture and why it all adds up to make my little personal space, perfect (Ok, just my pink velvet chair I also love, because my husband is not a fan of pink in our bedroom so it was the only piece I could get away with ha!). The point here is, why not make yourself a little area that is just for you and surround it with the little pieces you love the most. Even if you can only spend 5 minutes a day there, those 5 minutes will be so worth it…Me time, don’t forget about it!
It also won’t set you back too much - for more specific advice on example pieces and where to buy them from, just let me know and I will send them over.
Thank you so much for the question Katie and let me know how you get on!
I promised I would share some of my favourite products that I use every time I treat myself to a relaxing bubble bath...which is at least once a week by the way! Also bearing in mind we are all quarantined in our homes currently, it’s the perfect (and probably needed time) to take some relaxing me time before we all go crazy!
For me, there are 4 key products that I need in every bath time session. Bubbles, at least 1 candle, an amazing smelling body scrub and a rejuvenating face scrub. Throw all of these together and you will have the most relaxing bath and come away feeling refreshed and calm.
I definitely don’t want to be bathing in a tub full of chemicals, which is why I opt for something as natural and organic as possible. I was gifted Neom’s Perfect Night's Sleep Bath Foam, (I'm running out already as I use it all the time!), and it fills the bath with an amazing aroma of smells, that definitely help me to de stress, giving me a sense of peace.
Ideally I go for multiple candles, less is not more in this situation, so don’t be shy. Only go for one scented candle however, you don’t want your senses in overdrive and develop a headache because of too many varied smells. I dim the lights low and add few tea lights around my bigger candles to help create a mellow atmosphere.
Again this needs to be natural with no nasty bits, and my go to winner is always Neom's Great Day Body Scrub the consistency is like any other salt scrub but the smell...ahhh the smell, it is sensational and makes my bath time feel like I’ve taken a trip to the spa and heaven all at once! I’m not ready to swap this one to try something new, that’s how much I love it.
We are always told about the importance of exfoliating and as I’ve grown older, I make sure I’m following this advice! I have tried hundreds of different scrubs, some feel too harsh on my face and others feel like they aren’t enough. I’ve come to really love using Ionto-Comed Peeling Powder. At first I thought it wasn’t doing anything to my face but after using it daily, I loved the effects and how smooth my skin feels afterwards. Plus, it is does not feel harsh on my skin but the subtle tingle helps to tell me that it’s doing the job!
You can of course add more of your personal favourites to your special time...a glass of wine after one of those really bad days or a sneaky chance to catch up with your book that has been collecting dust while you’ve been collecting your nerves after the kids and work! You get the idea...make it a time for you and all your goodies, just remember, kids not allowed!
P.s. If you need personalised tips on your routine and how you can have a nice bath without your kiddies or have questions I can help answer, just get in touch!
I don’t often have a bath, simply because a shower is quicker and I love our walk in shower, so that also feels like a speedy luxury when I don’t want to spend too much time at night.
Yes, I shower or bath at night! I know some people cannot “wake up” in the morning without a quick shower, but for me and especially with kids, washing my hair and getting it dried then straightened - all in the morning(!!), will take far too long...and I’m not prepared to wake up at the crack of dawn for that, sleep is too precious!
In my opinion nothing beats a hot bath full of bubbles, especially when it’s been a particularly stressful or busy day. It calms you right down and gives that sense of relaxation. The trick is to get the kids to bed and then enjoy your distraction free moment to your self. The bonus of fitting this into your routine at night is just that, the kids are (hopefully) in bed!
Don't forget to treat yourself to some scrumptious smelly products too...stop by here soon and I will share some of my organic favourites.
